Recruitment has always been a huge part of HR, and it’s changed massively over the years.

I still remember the days when for many lower-skilled roles, you would simply show up, and chances were that you got the job! 👀

It’s a rather nostalgic memory now.

The complexity hit me properly when I joined the College. It’s not that my view of recruitment changed overnight, but I quickly realised how complex the process behind the scenes really is. Security checks, references, right-to-work documents, safeguarding — all of these steps happen long before a new hire can even walk through the door. 🚪

While modern HR systems can track these processes, they often come with a price tag that does not suit every organisation. That is where I thought about Recruitment Tracker. Simple, yet highly usable tool built in Google Sheets. It gives full visibility of each candidate’s progress, automatically calculates time-to-hire in business days, and provides an organised space to monitor key steps like references and start dates.

It might be simple in design, but it reflects exactly how I approach Recruitment: practical, process-focused, and always looking for ways to make things more efficient, even without expensive systems.
